A 43-year-old man from the Mandeville area who crashed his car near the entrance to his housing estate early on Tuesday later crashed into the wrong house, where the owner found him sleeping in the one of his rooms, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies traveled to the Quail Creek Subdivision off Louisiana 1088 after a report of a vehicle being abandoned after crashing into a tree near the entrance. They found the heavily damaged vehicle near the intersection of Soult Street and Sycamore Square. The registration indicated that the owner, Stephen Carlin, lived in the subdivision.
The sheriff’s office said deputies found Carlin when another neighborhood resident called to report finding an unknown male, who had apparently entered through an unlocked door, asleep in a bedroom.
Deputies woke Carlin, who appeared to be very drunk, and arrested him, according to a news release.
He was incarcerated in the St. Tammany Parish Jail for reckless operation of a vehicle, failure to report an accident and unauthorized entry into an inhabited dwelling.
Carlin was released on $4,000 bond.
