Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): MP Nagar Police have arrested an alleged ringleader from Gujarat, who was involved in the scam of up to 200 people after taking their rented vehicles and never returning them, police said on Saturday.
The gang’s third defendant Varun Bansal was arrested by Gujarat police on Friday.
Police station chief Sudhir Arjariya told Free Press that a complaint was filed in February. In which it was alleged that a travel agency entered into a contract with him to tie up his luxury car for rental purposes.
The company was involved in renting cars to individuals and taking cars on lease from owners.
It was alleged that his car was tied to another person and that company staff did not give the amount of rent nor return the car.
Police raided the company’s offices and arrested the accused Ravikant Vishwakarma (31) while four others fled. Police later arrested the second accused Satyendra Bhadoria (29) from Bhind on May 23.
The third accused, Varun Bansal, was arrested by Gujarat police on Friday. The accused had two travel companies. He used to rent cars and on a one off deal he gave them to stalwarts in the Gwalior-Chambal area.
Interestingly, the money he got from the contract was used to give businessmen interest.
Arjariya added that the defendant Varun comes from a business family. His father had a manufacturing unit for ‘Petha’ a type of candy. Their business expanded to various states.
But Varun wanted to live a “show off” life. He regularly changed cars and brands. This led to a huge loss in the parenting business.
He moved to Bhopal and started renting cars. He lived lavishly for which there was a downfall in his business.
After fleeing Bhopal, he became a street vendor and threw away his cellphone and SIM card. The police waited three days to arrest the accused.
