Nathan Apodaca, aka DoggFace, entered the global collective imagination in 2020, while skateboarding home from work, sipping Ocean Spray cranberry juice and singing “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac’s. The time of the embedded video below (and the fact that Apodaca was skateboarding in Idaho Falls, Idaho, because his car broke down) touched a thread in the fabric of a tattered society adjusting to the onset of the still-unfolding global pandemic.
Apodaca recently landed a guest appearance on the hugely popular, nuanced and genius Native American-focused FX comedy series Reservation dogs. Play a roofer who offers comedic interrogations and advice to young “Bear Smallhill”, who is working on his first construction job. Reservation dogs took critics and audiences by storm, centering on Indigenous life and the issues facing young people in general:
“From co-creators and executive producers Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi, Reservation dogs is a half-hour comedy that follows the exploits of “Elora Danan” (Devery Jacobs), “Bear Smallhill” (D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai), “Willie Jack” (Paulina Alexis) and “Cheese” (Lane Factor), four Native American teenagers from rural Oklahoma. After the fifth member of the Reservation Dogs dies, the crew sets out to steal, scheme, and save in order to vicariously fulfill their dream of reaching the exotic, mysterious, and distant land of California. But after a promising start to their criminal endeavors, including the legendary heist of a Flaming Flamers fries truck, theft of old lady weed edibles and substandard theft cars, the plan fell through. . The gang disbanded, each trying to forge their own path.”
