Uber will add planes, trains and rental cars as part of its super app strategy

Uber will initially integrate domestic rail and coach travel later this summer, allowing passengers to use the Uber app to travel easily across the UK. Following the addition of trains and coaches, Uber will expand its offering later this year by adding cross-Channel air and train tickets.

Uber has revealed plans to become a one-stop-shop for end-to-end travel by adding intercity train, coach and plane tickets to its UK app. The plan builds on Uber’s vision of being a super app that offers short- and long-distance travel options.

The company will initially integrate domestic rail and coach travel later this summer, allowing passengers to use the Uber app to travel easily across the UK. For example, when booking a weekend, users will be able to purchase a train or coach ticket and ensure that an Uber is waiting for them at the station to take them to their hotel.

Additionally, Uber is rolling out nationwide car rentals on the app to ensure passengers can get anywhere in the UK. Access to affordable rental cars on the app will help locals and tourists explore all the UK has to offer.

Following the addition of trains and coaches, Uber will expand its offer later this year by adding air and cross-Channel rail tickets in the Uber app. The company aims to provide a simple and transparent service for travelers planning a city break, managing a business trip or an airport transfer.

Jamie Heywood, Regional General Manager, UK, Northern and Eastern Europe, Uber, said: “Everyone appreciates the freedom to organize a trip in a simple and convenient way, which is why we are delighted to become a one-stop-shop for all. your travel needs. You’ve been able to book rides, bikes, boat services, and scooters on the Uber app for several years. Adding trains and coaches is therefore a natural progression. Later this year, we plan to integrate flights, and in future hotels, by integrating premium partners into the Uber app to create a seamless door-to-door travel experience.

The company will not offer these services itself, but train, coach and plane tickets will be available through a number of partners that will be fully integrated into the Uber app. In the coming months, Uber will confirm the various partners which will include national rail and coach companies, as well as car rental and flight services, allowing users to easily plan their trips.
