This week Smack down started when the ring was seen decorated in a different way. It was very clearly for the Viking Rules match which was scheduled for this week. This was definitely going to be the feud ending match for these two tag teams.
Match 1 – The Viking Raiders defeat The New Day in a Viking Rules Match
WWE SmackDown 02.09.2022 Results and Ratings
It was an incredibly entertaining match. It was booked for 15 minutes and it was the standard pay-per-view match for that week. We still can’t believe they are delivering these matches on free TV. In the end, it got a bit slow. At the end of the game, the Vikings put Xavier Woods through double tables and pinned him.
Backstage, Sami Zayn was seen preparing for the celebration of Roman Reigns’ two-year title reign. The Usos confronted him. He showed off some of the photos he collected of Roman’s special moments. Once again, Jey questioned him for not punching Kevin Owens last week. Sami said he was doing his best.
Game 2 – Karrion Kross defeats Drew Gulak
It was, as expected, a squash, very easy win in Karrion Kross’ Smackdown debut. Good to see Drew Gulak again after a long time. Kross had Gulak submit with the Coquina Clutch.
Ronda Rousey arrived in the arena with an envelope in her hand. She said that envelope contained a letter from WWE World Headquarters regarding his suspension. Adam Pearce came out and she asked Adam to read the letter out loud. The red letter when the suspension has been lifted. Adam expressed his frustration over Ronda and at the end he called her ab*tch. Ronda attacked him and pinned him with the Cross Armbar.
Match 3 – The Hit Row defeated The Maximum Male Models
This match was booked for only 3 minutes and it was also the debut of Maximum Male Models. It was a failed start as they were beaten quite easily. Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo tried to help the models but it didn’t work. After the match, Models, Garza and Carrillo started beating Hit Row as Street Profits came to the rescue.
Match 4 – Shinsuke Nakamura defeats Happy Corbin
Corbin staged an open challenge which Nakamura answered and it was a pretty easy win for the Japanese wrestler. We really don’t understand why Corbin is forced to work like this. Nakamura pinned Corbin with the Kinshasa.
Backstage, Corbin walked disappointed. A huge limousine stood in front of him. It wasn’t soon who was inside the car, a voice from inside was heard asking Corbin to get inside the car. It was clearly JBL. We hope Corbin finally gets better bookings.
Game 4 – Butch defeats Ludwig Kaiser
This match was booked for around 7 minutes and it was quite a good match. It may have been short but it was quite fun and that combination of technical and dirty wrestling was really fun to watch. It also could have been Butch’s first singles win on the main roster.
Next up was the celebration of Roman Reigns’ two-year title reign. The Usos and Sami Zayn were seen standing inside the ring. They cut a promo on Roman Reigns, again Sami was embarrassed by Jey Uso. They featured undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.
Roman was seen backstage getting out of his car. As soon as he got out of the car, he was hit in the head by Drew McIntyre. He then entered the arena and completely destroyed the Usos and Sami Zayn. Drew McIntyre celebrated inside the ring as this week’s SmackDown went on hiatus.
Overall, there were some good moments and some were pretty weak on this week’s SmackDown. The opening game was really good. Butch against Ludwig Kaiser was also a very good game. It’s also interesting to see where Ronda Rousey’s story goes. The ending segment was good too, but not enough Roman Reigns.
On the downside, the SmackDown Women’s Championship segment was pretty weak. Just one backstage segment wasn’t enough for a homecoming show. Too much time wasted with pre-recorded sequences. We give this week’s Smackdown 2 out of 5.
